Want to save a buck?

Posted by greg on March 9, 2009

In today’s fragile and unpredictable economy, saving money is at the top of everyone’s mind. Here are some tips for saving money in your life in general, and also when purchasing things at online retilaers such as buy.com.
Saving at online retailers such as buy.com is easy, but may take a little research to get the best price. Getting that new plasma TV is worth it though, especially when you can save possibly 50% and maybe much more! All for a few minutes of research! When you shop online with buy.com, you can use coupon codes, which are an electronic coupon. Simply find the item you want or need, see if its on sale on their website. Then, go an internet search for ‘buy.com coupon code’. You can often find free shipping, percentages off, and other great deals that you can combine with the same price!
There are dozens of ways to save money in your day-to-day life as well!
Before you even start looking elsewhere in your budget to cut costs, start at the source with your paycheck. If you get a tax refund, that means you’re overpaying Uncle Sam from the beginning. Boost your take-home pay today by adjusting your tax withholding with your employer.

Use coupons for grocery shopping. Make sure though, that you are getting a good deal. Compare the price of store brands to what you will pay with a coupon for a name brand. Take the time to do the math!
Turn off the lights! And don’t forget to unplug EVERYTHING. Even when off, a computer uses electricity. Same for your cell phone charger, coffee pot and TV! Unplugging these items will save on your electric bill!
Turn your hot water heater down. It takes a lot of electricity to heat up the water! If you can afford it, changing to a tankless water heater will save you even more money, and will pay for itself within a year or two!
Do you really need 500 cable or satellite channels? Call your Provider and reduce your services!

Using coupons for rental car deals!

Posted by greg on March 9, 2009

We all know coupons are one of the best ways to save money on groceries and health and beauty products- but did you know that you can also use coupons to save yourself money when getting a rental car? That’s right- you can use coupons when you are traveling and save money on your rental car charges!
Rental car coupons can be found in lots of places- some you may have never even though of! Your local phone directory often has rental car coupons in the front of the book, you can also search online discount sites such as http://www.dailynewdeals.com/ to find the most recent rental car coupon codes! Most membership companies- including the AARP and AAA clubs offer rental car discount codes. In addition, most major warehouse clubs such as Cosco, Sams’ Club and BJ’s warehouse club offer special discounts for their members!
Often times you may receive rental car coupons in membership mailings as well! Another great place to find them is in local coupon mailers!
Different types of car rental coupons include:
Money off coupons- car rental coupons can range from $5 to $50 off your total rental price. (Money always comes off at the end of the rental after the taxes and fees are calculated) The amount of money off usually depends on the number of rental days and sometimes the size of the vehicle you are renting.
Free day coupons- You usually find free day coupons for compact up to full size cars, for weekly or weekend rentals. To calculate the value of the free day you would take your base rate (before taxes) and divide it by the number of rental days. This gives you an average daily rate. This amount would be taken off at the end of the rental (taxes and fees are calculated first!).
When booking online, the value of money off or free day coupon may not be calculated into your total price. When you generate your price total, the website should tell you whether or not the value of the free day has been credited. If it is not calculated in your rate, the coupon value will be subtracted at the end of the rental when you pay for it, assuming you met the terms and conditions that were listed; these terms and conditions are usually on the back of the coupon.
Upgrade coupons- these are common as a single upgrade or double upgrade. For example if a rental company classifies it’s sizes from compact – mid – standard – full – premium and you wanted a full size; you would book the mid-size and may receive a single upgrade to a standard size car or a double upgrade to a full size car.

E- coupons save money at retailers such as amazon.com!

Posted by greg on October 31, 2008

E- coupons save money at retailers such as amazon.com!

Just as with many good things, paper coupons seem to be declining. They are being replaced with e-coupons and coupon codes!

For several years now, people have been able to save money at online retailers, such as amazon.com with coupons codes. When you shop online with amazon, you can use coupon codes, which are an electronic coupon. Simply find the item you want or need, see if its on sale on their website. Then, go an internet search for ‘amazon.com coupon code’. You can often find free shipping, percentages off, and other great deals that you can combine with the same price!

But now, grocery chains, food and drug manufacturers, and even coupon marketers themselves are going electronic. The concept is almost as simple as scissors and the Sunday paper: Visit a Web site, type in your loyalty codes, and find all the coupons waiting for you, electronically, at a store’s cash register or even on your cell phone.

The hope is that these electronic discounts will revive the dying coupon business. Only 0.5% of the 285 billion coupons issued last year were redeemed, according to coupon processor NCH, down from an average of 1% a decade ago.

Part of the problem is that newspaper readership is declining, so fewer people are looking at the Sunday circulars. The younger shoppers sought by marketers read their news online. And fewer people these days have time to clip, organize and sort coupons each week.

And since we all seem to have time to surf the Net and talk on our cell phones, these areas are where the industry is casting its net for savvy coupon clippers.

“We are committed to reaching our customers when and where they are most receptive,” says Jenifer Nunnelley, a Procter & Gamble spokeswoman.

Grocery giant Kroger, which owns Ralphs, King Soopers, City Market, Dillons, Smith’s Food & Drug Stores and eight other supermarket chains, has coupons from Procter & Gamble loaded on its store card.

Coupons for groceries and amazon.com!

Posted by greg on October 31, 2008

Coupons can be helpful for saving money. You can get coupons for everything from groceries and health and beauty items, to prescription medicine- even electronics at retailers such as amazon.com! When using coupons, especially for groceries, make sure to compare prices of the name brand item with the coupon to the price of the same item in an off-brand without a coupon.

The name-brand item plus a coupon may still cost more than the off-brand item at regular price. A good sale matched with a coupon can be a good deal. And it could be even a greater deal if a store offers double coupons and has a sale at the same time. But, beware of this trap.

Most stores offering double or triple coupons have higher prices on most of their groceries. You will most likely get the best deal by buying an item that is on sale and combining it with a coupon which will double or triple. Your savings are increased more if you have a manufacturer coupon and a store coupon to use that the same time on the same product! Rebates can also be good, especially if matched with a sale and coupons. You have heard stories of how someone only spent $20 for $120 worth of groceries by combining coupons, sales and rebates. It can be done, but this usually is a rare event. I have done it myself, and its not easy, and it really doesn’t happen often! Places to find “good” coupons are the Sunday newspapers, local coupon clubs. You can also join what are called coupon ‘trains’, which involves mailing coupons to other people.

One person makes an envelope with coupons, sends it to the next, who takes out what they want and replaces the number of coupons they took with new coupons. Another good way to get coupons of high value is to write the manufacturer of a product you use. They usually send several valuable coupons for your trouble. Groceries are not the only thing you can save on. You can also save at retailers such as amazon.com.

The best way to get the best deal is to shop these retailers online though www.dailynewdeals.com. When you shop online with amazon.com, you can use coupon codes, which are an electronic coupon. Since amazon does not often issue paper coupons for use in their store, purchasing online is usually the best way to get the best deal. IF best buy has something you want or need, see if its on sale on their website. Then, go an internet search for ‘amazon.com coupon code’. You can often find free shipping, percentages off, and other great deals that you can combine with the same price!
